When I came to Ralph and Michelle, I was at a bit of a low point as most people come to at various stages when they feel like they haven’t accomplished what they wanted to by a specific time, or when you get a degree and feel like you’ve got nothing to show for it. Although I had a degree and was working by this stage, it wasn’t remotely related to my field of study. I was virtually limiting all and any potential job opportunities as I was tunnel visioning my efforts to achieving what I perceived as the ‘dream job’. This had a bit of a domino effect and thus led to me feeling sorry for myself because I thought I wasn’t getting anywhere in life or meeting all of the grandiose personal goals I’d set for myself.
Ralph and Michelle sat down with me, asked me a few questions and over the proceeding weeks set a number of tasks for me. By doing this, it helped highlight to me what most of us already know about ourselves but might just not know how to either interpret or truths we avoid altogether. With their patience and mentoring and my willingness to listen and have a go, I finally opened my own eyes to how I was limiting myself in some areas and the strengths I could use to my advantage in the long run.
Ralph and Michelle taught me the skills I needed to help myself, rather than just going out there and doing it for me. I’ve since used these skills to allow myself to be open to opportunities I could see in front of me (and a few which I didn’t). In doing so, I inadvertently found a different path, networked, gained skills and life experiences to what I am now doing today – the ‘dream job’.
